SUSAN & LARRY'SWelcome to our site! 9/23/2007 Cruise to Europe - August to Sept 2007We took an amazing cruise to Europe with our dad Lee this summer. This was at least the 10th time he's been on this ship, the Marco Polo. We loved the ship...and went on Shore excursions at every port.
We flew into London and stayed at a beautiful hotel, the Thistle Royal Horseguards. We did a lot of sightseeing and also were able to meet up with Duncan and Claire and the kids, Rosie and Elliot, for lunch and a tour of Westminster Abbey. We were there on Princess Diana's 10 yr anniversary and were able to see tributes at Kensington Palace where she lived. We had a great time in London and it was nice and chilly!
After a few days, we met the ship at Dover. Next stop was Zebrugges, Belgium. We did a tour of Bruges, which was beautiful. One of the highlights was a canal boat ride (pics to come!). One of the best highlights for me was seeing Michangelo's "Bruges Madonna" sculpture...it was absolutely gorgeous. After Bruges, we got back on the ship and then traveled along the Coast to France. Next stop was St. Malo, where we saw Mt. St. Michel. We went to La Rochelle, France, next and toured the cognac region, stopping at the Hennessy Cognac distillery - very interesting! (Taste tests included!) . Then on to La Caruna, Spain where we took a trip to Santiago. Then 2 stops in Portugal: Oporto (Guimaranes) and Lisbon. Then on to Spain again: Cadiz, Malaga, Seville, Alicante, Rondo and finally ending up in Barcelona. We passed the rock of Gibraltar at 3:30am one morning - and got up to see it. It was amazing seeing Spain on the left and Africa on the right. We stayed for a few days in Barcelona at the Princessa Sofia hotel.
This is a work in progress: Lots more pics/videos/stories to come about the trip!
New York Trip - April 2007We took a great trip up to NY in April. Larry had not been up there since he was 18. I have not been up since 2001. Went to my old neighborhood in Queens (Forest Hills). We saw the Broadway play, "Wicked" on Larry's birthday - it was very good!
We were able to see the family - the Morehouses and Athertons. We also saw Mary McTighe and Luke and she made us a good Irish homecooked dinner, just like old times, in Forest Hills. We saw dear Betty who drove out all the way from the island to meet us. We saw my cousin Judi...I"m so glad we were able to see her when we went up in April...
More coming - and pics of this trip coming too! 4/24/2007 Lee's 90th Birthday Party 4/7/2007We celebrated Lee's 90th Birthday Party on April 7th. He was born 4/11/1917. All the family came except for 2 grandchildren, who sent their best wishes. Everyone had a great time. Laurieann and Paul and their children came all the way from Delaware. Christine, Guy and Jere came from Texas, and Bonnie came from Cayman Brac in the British West Indies!
It was a grand reunion! The family had not gathered like this for many years - and what a wonderful occasion to celebrate!
Christine and Guy brought eggs stuffed with confetti (a Mexican tradition) and we had a great time out front throwing them at each other. We watched a beautiful presentation of Lee's adventures as a young man up in Michigan, serving in Europe during WWII, building his own successful insurance agency in Zephyrhills, raising children and traveling with his wife, Marjorie, and the many other wonderful things he's done and places he's visited.
Attendees of Lee's party were: his 4 kids: Bonnie, Marvin, Laurieann and Larry; 10 of his grandchildren Ginger, Ashley, Jon, Kathleen, Charles, William, Henry, Carey, Christine and Jere, and both of his great grandchildren, Solomon and Hope. Spouses/ SO's are me (Susan), Daphne (Marvin's wife), Paul (Laurieann's husband), Mike (Ginger's husband) and Guy (Christine's boyfriend). My Dad came and so did my sister Mary and her kids, Lauren and Kevin. And don't forget the dogs... Julie and Cody had a great time! We all had a great time! (missing were Lee's grandkids Sarah and Mark who were tending to their respective churches for Easter.) See Photos to the right! Disney Inline Marathon 4/1/2007Seth, Paola and I skated the Disney Inline Marathon on April 1st! We did the whole 26.2 miles in 2:40. It was BIG FUN! Definitely an annual event from here on out! Pics to come...! 2/26/2007 Jere's visit - Everglades Trip 2.2007Jere flew in on 2/21 to go on the Everglades trip with Larry. They had a good time! They rode bikes among the alligators and then canoed throguh the mangroves down the Turner River to Sunday Bay in Everglades National Park. They stayed on Sunday Bay chickee on Friday night. Sunday was a visit to Pop's house. We all had a good time seeing Jere. We're looking forward to having him back along with Christine and her boyfriend, Guy, in April when we celebrate Pop's 90th birthday! See pictures to the right. 11/27/2006 Jere and Christine - Nov 16-20Jere and Christine came to visit! This was Jere's first and Christine's 2nd visit. They are both absolutely delightful! We had a wonderful time. Jere is a great man - he and Larry share many interests like science, the outdoors and they look a lot alike. It was a great reunion and I hope they really get to know each other. Christine is a wonderful lady who has a lot of exciting things going on in her life. We are thrilled to be a part of that now.
Jere got to see his Grandfather Lee (POP) for the first time (since he was 2). Christine had met Pop in August. We went for an airboat ride and a big highlight was the Space Center Family day. It was great for me too because I got to see where Larry worked for the first time (I am so proud of him!) We're looking forward to seeing Christine and Jere again soon. (see pics to the right) 11/15/2006 Larry's Jere and Christine are coming to visit! It's a great week - Both of Larry's children are coming to visit us! They are coming Thursday night - Monday (11/17-11/20) Part of the trip will be a Family Day event at KSC. I will post pictures afterwards. It's a WONDERFUL thing! |
